FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Yes. There isn’t any problem cooking half a cup of rice in this rice cooker. We made sure that Panda can do this successfully – half a cup of rice comes out as perfectly as when you cook the full 3.5 cup capacity of rice.

Panda has two different types of capacity. It is a 0.6 litre, 3.5 cup rice cooker or 1.3 litre multicooker.

Let’s take the first two capacities – 0.6 litres or 3.5 cup. Rice cooker capacities are always referred to in litres or cups. Panda is a 0.6 litres capacity rice cooker and it can therefore cook 3.5 cups of uncooked white rice or 2.5 cups of uncooked brown rice – each cup is 180ml/g. So, if you want to cook 1 cup of white rice, that would be approximately 180g or if you want to cook the full capacity of 3.5 cups, that would be approximately 630g of uncooked rice.

The third capacity of 1.3 litres refers to Panda’s multi-cooking capacity. This means that the inner bowl can hold a maximum of 1.3 litres of liquid.

You can learn more about the capacity of our rice cookers in the following pages:

EU Capacity Guide

In our years of selling Zojirushi rice cookers, we realised that all of rice cookers on the market in the UK, Europe or the USA only had teflon/similar non-stick material inner bowls.

Based on many customer queries and opinions, we took the decision to supply an inner bowl with a premium and durable 2mm thick ceramic coating. We call this type of bowl – Ninja.

The Ninja bowl is BPA-free and PTFE-free and is hard wearing. The inner bowl also has a special honeycomb structure to help the heat disperse evenly across the bowl’s surface.

The level lines of the bowl are silk printed rather than stamped so they can be hard wearing but also easily read in low light conditions.

Yes! To turn Panda OFF simply press the START button when a menu function is not selected.

To turn Panda back ON simply press the START button again.

Are you are getting this effect on your the display of your rice cooker?

This means that your rice cooker has a last 10 minute countdown (good accuracy).

To learn more about why this is please consult how countdowns vary between rice cookers by looking at these pages:

https://yum-asia.com/uk/displays-and-countdowns/

https://yum-asia.com/uk/rice-cooker-comparison/

Rice cooker countdowns can vary but some a more reliable than others. Some rice cookers have no countdowns at all.

The three main types of rice cooker countdowns are as follows:

1. Last 10 minute countdown (GOOD ACCURACY)

2. Full countdown from the start of cooking (MEDIUM ACCURACY)

3. LOOP full countdown (GOOD ACCURACY) – only available on the Fuji model.

Fuzzy logic are good at predicting cooking results but it requires some time to calculate the time needed to cook something. This is because of several factors that it needs to figure out such as ambient room temperature, starting bowl temperature of contents, what you are cooking and other various factors.

Until the fuzzy logic calculates these factors some rice cookers will either show a blank display (largely Zojirushi models) or will show a chasing lines pattern on the display until the calculation is confirmed. (Yum Asia models). The more accurate rice cookers don’t calculate the remaining time until the final 10 minutes. If the countdown starts at the beginning of cooking often the remaining time will jump around a lot as it tries to work out what cooking time is required. Usually it cannot fix on one remaining time until the final 10 minutes also. Trying to work out what a jumping countdown time means can be confusing for users. This is why we consider this type of countdown to be less reliable, especially in the early stages of cooking.

Yes, Panda has a preset timer feature. You can set this for up to 24 hours in advance, so you can have yummy rice ready for you when you get in from work or lovely hot porridge on a cold, Winters day ready for when you need warming up.

To use the Panda rice cooker timer you set the number of hours for when you want the function to complete (not when you want it to begin cooking).

For example – it is 9am and you want the white rice to be ready at 1pm. You would therefore set the preset timer for 4 hours. The rice will therefore be completed and ready to eat at 1pm.

Gave this as a gift to a friend. We tried it as soon as he opened it using the delayed start feature and Calrose rice. It came out great. Highly recommended.

Had a Zojirushi for 16 years but the inner bowl was all scratched up and a new bowl was 50. Price wasn’t an issue but wanted something not coated with Teflon so went with this one little guy and really happy with it. Wash ur rice in a separate bowl and stir it once it’s cooked. I use a silicone dish cleaner. Also I havent had issues with leaking, make sure u empty the little drain after every use and pop out steam inner lid to wash and make sure water isnt stagnant under there. Saw someone say their screws rusted, I would imagine it wasn’t allowed to air out. When it’s empty, I don’t ever close it until its totally dried out.

Easy to use and clean , works every time on any rice variety we have tried.

  4. RGBforlife99

Works exactly as described, I’ve made 4 different types of rice including brown and short grain and it’s all done perfectly every time. Never burnt, never dry nor wet, just perfect every time. I purchased this because it had great reviews and it was a good size for my small family. There are some concerning reviews regarding longevity and the lid so we’ll see how it goes. I’ve used it 8 times since I bought it last week so I’m going to put it through the paces

Well I have to say, Yum Asia have done it again. I bought a Sakura (which my dad now has) and then upgraded to a Bamboo. I’ve bought Panda for my son who is going away to university in a few weeks. This rice cooker is so cute – we have been testing it over the weekend and it’s just perfect. So many great features packed into such a cute little package – I’m confident my son will be eating well when he leaves home. I love Yum Asia products because they are so well designed and they work exactly how they are meant to. Brilliant!

  9. Imie (UK)

This rice cooker is well designed and fits into my really small kitchen. I’m really happy I’ve finally found a rice cooker that is small but doesn’t have essential to me features missing. White (whether long or short grain) rice is so yummy, brown rice is really well cooked with such nice texture. It really looks like a little panda cub, it’s tiny!

  10. Lyn (UK)

Brilliant rice cooker, everything is perfect. Just the right size for me and the hubby, the steam basket makes complete meals really easy to cook. 100% recommend.
