Our Smallest UMAI IH Cooker
Hotaru (Japanese word for firefly - 蛍) is our smallest high-end rice cooker – it’s ideal for singles, couples or a small family. Hotaru is our third smart UMAI Induction Heating (IH) rice cooker with AI for the UK and Europe. It's packed full of unique rice cooking functions that have become incredibly popular. Using microcoil technology we have compacted the induction heating technology into a small capacity rice cooker whilst being able to retain a minimal appearance. We used the foundation of Japanese rice cooking technologies to learn exactly how they worked, chose their best and most useful features, improved on them and incorporated them into Hotaru so it produces professional (better than) restaurant quality rice – every time!
Hidden Control System With Modern Display
We are well known for being rice cooker experts with decades of experience in cooking rice. For Hotaru, we give a choice of two matte colours which are Chalk White or Slate Grey with a subtle glossy trim. This is complemented by our ice white ‘hidden controls’ with Ice White LED display and advanced Korean Motouch sensitive control panel not only for reasons of hygiene but to keep fingerprints to a minimum and give an easy clean exterior appearance with minimal aesthetics.
Superior Thoughtful Design
Hotaru has been designed with healthy superior cooking at it's core. It has a stainless steel inner lid and steam tray for the more health conscious. It includes our signature Joubu 3mm ceramic coated inner bowl. Joubu has rice measurement level lines are silk printed for ease of reading and durability. Hotaru itself is easy to clean with removable parts. This means healthy, safe and hygienic cooking.
Built into the lid is a condensate heating evaporator (CHE) which reduces excess moisture during and after cooking and helps collect the condensate into the water collector. Steam hits the inner lid, condenses into water and is evaporated back into steam to reduce liquid and help give more even cooking.
Hotaru Does The Thinking
Hotaru can cook any rice from raw perfectly. Basmati, Hom Mali jasmine rice, brown rice, short grain (sushi) and more – using it’s UMAI smart brain (+AI). It has been trained to know exactly how these grains are supposed to be cooked and communicates heating parameters to its micro inductive coils. Using multiple heating phases calibrated by our engineers at Yum Asia, fine adjustments are made to each cooking process so you get perfect cooked grains. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Hotaru has two different types of capacity. It is a 0.54 litre, 3 cup rice cooker or 1 litre multicooker.
Let’s take the first two capacities – 0.54 litres or 3 cup. Rice cooker capacities are always referred to in litres or cups. Hotaru is a 0.54 litres capacity rice cooker and it can therefore cook 3 cups of uncooked white rice or 2 cups of uncooked brown rice – each cup is 180ml/g. So, if you want to cook 1 cup of white rice, that would be approximately 180g or if you want to cook the full capacity of 3 cups, that would be approximately 900g of uncooked rice.
The third capacity of 1 litre refers to Hotaru’s multi-cooking capacity. This means that the inner bowl can hold a maximum of 1 litres of liquid.

In our years of selling Zojirushi rice cookers, we realised that all of rice cookers on the market in the UK, Europe or the USA only had teflon/similar non-stick material inner bowls.
Based on many customer queries and opinions, we took the decision to supply an inner bowl with a premium and durable 3mm thick ceramic coating.We call this type of bowl – Joubu.
The Joubu bowl is BPA-free and PTFE-free and is hard wearing. The inner bowl also has a special honeycomb structure to help the heat disperse evenly across the bowl’s surface.
The level lines of the bowl are silk printed rather than stamped so they can be hard wearing but also easily read in low light conditions.
Yes! To turn Hotaru OFF simply press the power ON/OFF button.
To turn Hotaru back ON simply press the power ON/OFF button again.
Yes, Hotaru has a preset timer feature. You can set this for up to 24 hours in advance, so you can have yummy rice ready for you when you get in from work or lovely hot porridge on a cold, Winters day ready for when you need warming up.
To use the Hotaru rice cooker timer you set the number of hours for when you want the function to complete (not when you want it to begin cooking).
For example – it is 9am and you want the white rice to be ready at 1pm. You would therefore set the preset timer for 4 hours. The rice will therefore be completed and ready to eat at 1pm.
