Packed full of rice cooking functions including YumCarb which reduced carbs in rice by up to 25% reduction

Yum Asia Kumo rice cooker USA version

Efficient, Healthy, Rice Cooking Perfected

Kumo was the first carb lowering rice cooker in the UK and EU and now you can have it in the US. It’s still the best, originally launched in early 2020 it rapidly gained popularity due to it’s YumCarb function which can reduce the carbohydrates in both white and brown rice by up to 25%. It’s an optimal size at 5.5 cup – sitting in between the normal 1 to 10 cup size range for rice cookers making it perfect for making meals for 1 to 5 people.

Surprisingly Affordable With Premium Features

Not only is Kumo incredibly affordable it has premium features such as our Ninja ceramic coated inner bowl, advanced fuzzy logic (AI) processing, multi phased cooking, 5 rice cooking functions with 3 carefully selected add-on functions, a last 10 minute countdown for the rice functions, long life tested Korean design Smart Button control panel with an LED display, 3D heating technology, 24 hour timer, 12 hour keep warm and calibrated by Yum Asia for perfect rice cooking.

A Healthy Flexible Solid Performer

Kumo can cook your rice as normal or using our special YumCarb mode can cook low carb white and brown rice. It does this via a special cooking cycle that using multiple cooking phases to removes excess carbohydrates all controlled by advanced fuzzy logic. Kumo includes our signature 2mm ceramic coated Ninja inner bowl which has silk printed rice measurement lines so you know exactly the right amount of water to add depending on how much rice you add to the bowl. You also get a stainless steel YumCarb basket with rice measurement lines also for the healthy YumCarb rice option. No more guess work or trying to measure water in cups. Our cookers do not contain BPA, PTFE or PFOA and the steam cap, stainless steel inner lid and condensation collector are all removable for good hygiene.

Strong Industrial Grade Cooking

Both light and dark stainless steel versions of Kumo are available. We chose high quality steel for the exterior so it would be more hard wearing and give a contemporary industrial look that we found to be appealing to the western market and kitchen style. Whilst Kumo may be low on price it is rich on features. Kumo can cook anything from white or brown rice (normal or YumCarb), short grain rice (sushi) and can even steam, cook porridge or (what most people like about our rice cookers) can slow cook too!

Up to 25% lower carbohydrates in brown or white rice when using YumCarb

The reduction of glycemic load in starchy foods brings sugar levels down to be more suitable for a diabetic diet and prevention of diabetes, obesity, and heart disease. This is achieved by the special YumCarb setting in combination with the advanced fuzzy logic technology (AI) which, rather than simply boiling the rice (which strips out valuable nutrients) uses a 7 phase cooking pattern to achieve rice with improved texture, taste, nutritional value and aroma.

*Based on lab testing, a reduction of 25% less carbohydrates was shown in white rice. Certified by Testing Institute of Product Quality Supervision, China

Kumo starts to gently heat the rice and water in the inner bowl to between 50-60°C. This begins the cooking cycle and is key to the release of sugars into the water from the rice grains.

The cooking temperature is further increased whilst the microprocessor makes small adjustments to obtain a range of between 50-80°C so the rice can optimally start absorbing the water depending on the function chosen.

The temperature is increased again to between 75-85°C to start the actual cooking process. This varies depending on the function chosen.

Kumo then rapidly increases the temperature to 100˚C boiling point to evaporate the majority of the water from the inner bowl and to further cook the rice to soften and optimise texture.

STEAM PHASE – sugar reabsorption

Deep steaming then enables the rice to continue cooking while reabsorbing the sugars from the remaining water back into the rice whilst simultaneously evaporating the remaining water. This part of the cycle makes the rice taste sweeter, more nutritious, have better aroma/texture and completes the final rice grain cooking.

Water balancing then occurs using low temperature range cycling to ensure there is no remaining water left and that the rice has the correct moisture content.

The temperature is then held at an optimal 70-76°C to continue to steam the rice and keep the rice safe from bacteria. This ensures the rice is perfectly cooked, fluffy and delicious and ready for when you need it.

Multi Phased Cooking

Kumo uses advanced fuzzy logic (AI) to ensure rice is cooked perfectly every time. This cooking profile graph shows how the advanced microprocessor adjusts the temperature using the weight, content type, water volume, internal temperatures along with pre-programmed conditions to cook perfect rice time after time.
Kumo uses at least 7 phases of cooking types which includes preheat, absorb water, heating, boiling, steam, cool down and keep warm with steam which are each calculated for time and temperature using Yum Asia's unique cooking profiles.

Yes. There isn’t any problem cooking 1 cup of rice in this rice cooker, we made sure that Kumo can do this successfully – 1 cup of rice comes out as perfectly as when you cook the full 5.5 cup capacity of rice.

Kumo has two different types of capacity. It is a 1 litre, 5.5 cup rice cooker or 2.2 litre multicooker.

Let’s take the first two capacities – 1 litre or 5.5 cup. Rice cooker capacities are always referred to in litres or cups. Kumo is a 1 litre capacity rice cooker and it can therefore cook 5.5 cups of uncooked white rice or 4 cups of uncooked brown rice – each cup is 180ml/g. So, if you want to cook 1 cup of white rice, that would be 180g or if you want to cook the full capacity of 5.5 cups, that would be 1kg of uncooked rice.

The third capacity of 2.1 litres refers to Kumo’s multicooking capacity. This means that the inner bowl can hold a maximum of 2.2 litres of liquid.

You can learn more about the capacity of our rice cookers in the following pages:

US Capacity Guide

In our years of selling Zojirushi rice cookers, we realised that all of rice cookers on the market in the UK, Europe or the USA only had teflon/similar non-stick material inner bowls.

Based on many customer queries and opinions, we took the decision to supply an inner bowl with a premium and durable 2mm thick ceramic coating. We call this type of bowl – Ninja.

The Ninja bowl is BPA-free and PTFE-free and is hard wearing. The inner bowl also has a special honeycomb structure to help the heat disperse evenly across the bowl’s surface.

The level lines of the bowl are silk printed rather than stamped so they can be hard wearing but also easily read in low light conditions.

Yes! To turn Kumo OFF simply press the POWER button twice when a menu function is not selected.

To turn Kumo back ON simply press the POWER button again.

No, Kumo does not simply boil the rice. As it is advanced fuzzy logic rice cooker, is designed to cook rice using 7 distinct phases to produce perfect rice every time and to carefully retain nutrients.

These phases are Preheat, Absorb water, Heating, Boiling, Braising, Absorb water and then finally Keep warm (in this order). This phased cooking and adjustments in temperature are what produces perfect rice every time.

We spent many years thinking about and designing a rice cooker with functions that were most appealing to people that love Asian food with the core emphasis being based around cooking great tasting rice. We decided that the cooker would not only have to function extremely well but look great and have superior reliability comparable to the Zojirushi brand of rice cooker. Every part of the cooker from the display panel, moulded materials, inner bowl, packaging and instruction manual was designed with meticulous detail to ensure that customers would get the very best value for their money.

The factory we chose to manufacture Kumo also manufacturers highly thought of brands like Cuckoo, Cuchen and Tiger.

We have extensively tested Kumo and we conducted blind taste tests with the Yum Asia team and we are all in agreement that Kumo produces rice which is every bit as good as the rice from a Zojirushi! We also included several features that aren’t usually available on small rice cookers, like a steaming function.

  3. Oskar

It’s a rice cooker. It cooks rice. What else do you need?

  4. YL

Can’t get enough of that fluffy rice! reasonably priced with impressive quality, definitely a match to the japanese rice cooker line

  5. Joe Collins

So many cookers on the market but this is the only one that will actually steam the rice – not boil it.

  6. Moooo

This rice cooker is very easy to use but has many different functions.

  7. Trey De Cim

I bought this as our old rice cooker sadly died after almost constant use (my wife and daughter eat a LOT of rice) and it’s been absolutely superb. We generally use Thai Jasmine rice and it comes out perfectly, but sushi and basmati rice have also been successfully tried.

  8. Client d’Amazon

  9. Franziska Must
