HEALTHY, DURABLE, SAFE COOKING

In It's Class, Nothing Cooks Like Panda

Panda comes with our signature Ninja bowl with 2mm ceramic coating for healthy cooking. Our Ninja bowl ceramic layers have become well established for being perfect for non-stick rice cooking and lasting the test of time. With easy to read silk print rice measurement lines you can be sure to know exactly the right amount of water to add depending on how much rice you add to the bowl. No more guess work or trying to measure water in cups. Our cookers don’t contain BPA, PTFE or PFOA and the steam cap, inner lid and condensation collector are all removeable for good hygiene and easy cleaning.

A PANDA HUGGING ITSELF

The Popularity Of Kawaii

Did you notice the unique appearance of our two colour Panda? In the original white and grey colour version the idea was to represent a Panda hugging itself with the grey accents being the arms. The unique styling ensures that Panda really pops on your kitchen worktop and will be appealing to all for being so beautiful. Panda can handle short grain (sushi), white or brown rice but also has specific settings for porridge, slow cooking (yes it can be a slow cooker!) and cake baking. Arguably the most commented rice cooker on the market for being so kawaii (Japanese for cute) we have to agree. It’s not just a great performer but good looking too!

PREHEATING PHASE

Panda starts to gently heat the rice and water in the inner bowl to between 50-60°C. This begins the cooking cycle and is key to the release of sugars into the water from the rice grains.

Absorb-Water-1.png

ABSORB WATER PHASE

The cooking temperature is further increased whilst the microprocessor makes small adjustments to obtain a range of between 50-80°C so the rice can optimally start absorbing the water depending on the function chosen.

Heating-icon-1.png

HEATING PHASE

The temperature is increased again to between 75-85°C to start the actual cooking process. This varies depending on the function chosen.

Boiling-icon-1.png

BOILING PHASE

Panda then rapidly increases the temperature to 100ËšC boiling point to evaporate the majority of the water from the inner bowl and to further cook the rice to soften and optimise texture.

Steam-icon-1.png

STEAM PHASE – sugar reabsorption

Deep steaming then enables the rice to continue cooking while reabsorbing the sugars from the remaining water back into the rice whilst simultaneously evaporating the remaining water. This part of the cycle makes the rice taste sweeter, more nutritious, have better aroma/texture and completes the final rice grain cooking.

Cool-down-icon-1.png

COOL DOWN PHASE

Water balancing then occurs using low temperature range cycling to ensure there is no remaining water left and that the rice has the correct moisture content.

Keep-warm-icon2-1.png

KEEP WARM AND STEAM PHASE

The temperature is then held at an optimal 70-76°C to continue to steam the rice and keep the rice safe from bacteria. This ensures the rice is perfectly cooked, fluffy and delicious and ready for when you need it.

Multi Phased Cooking

Panda uses advanced fuzzy logic (AI) to ensure rice is cooked perfectly every time. This cooking profile graph shows how the advanced microprocessor adjusts the temperature using the weight, content type, water volume, internal temperatures along with pre-programmed conditions to cook perfect rice time after time.
Panda uses at least 7 phases of cooking types which includes preheat, absorb water, heating, boiling, steam, cool down and keep warm with steam which are each calculated for time and temperature using Yum Asia's unique cooking profiles.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Yes. There isn’t any problem cooking half a cup of rice in this rice cooker. We made sure that Panda can do this successfully – half a cup of rice comes out as perfectly as when you cook the full 3.5 cup capacity of rice.

Panda has two different types of capacity. It is a 0.6 litre, 3.5 cup rice cooker or 1.3 litre multicooker.

Let’s take the first two capacities – 0.6 litres or 3.5 cup. Rice cooker capacities are always referred to in litres or cups. Panda is a 0.6 litres capacity rice cooker and it can therefore cook 3.5 cups of uncooked white rice or 2.5 cups of uncooked brown rice – each cup is 180ml/g. So, if you want to cook 1 cup of white rice, that would be approximately 180g or if you want to cook the full capacity of 3.5 cups, that would be approximately 630g of uncooked rice.

The third capacity of 1.3 litres refers to Panda’s multi-cooking capacity. This means that the inner bowl can hold a maximum of 1.3 litres of liquid.

You can learn more about the capacity of our rice cookers in the following pages:

US Capacity Guide

In our years of selling Zojirushi rice cookers, we realised that all of rice cookers on the market in the UK, Europe or the USA only had teflon/similar non-stick material inner bowls.

Based on many customer queries and opinions, we took the decision to supply an inner bowl with a premium and durable 2mm thick ceramic coating. We call this type of bowl – Ninja.

The Ninja bowl is BPA-free and PTFE-free and is hard wearing. The inner bowl also has a special honeycomb structure to help the heat disperse evenly across the bowl’s surface.

The level lines of the bowl are silk printed rather than stamped so they can be hard wearing but also easily read in low light conditions.

Yes! To turn Panda OFF simply press the START button when a menu function is not selected.

To turn Panda back ON simply press the START button again.

Are you are getting this effect on your the display of your rice cooker?

This means that your rice cooker has a last 10 minute countdown (good accuracy).

To learn more about why this is please consult how countdowns vary between rice cookers by looking at these pages:

https://yum-asia.com/uk/displays-and-countdowns/

https://yum-asia.com/uk/rice-cooker-comparison/

Rice cooker countdowns can vary but some a more reliable than others. Some rice cookers have no countdowns at all.

The three main types of rice cooker countdowns are as follows:

1. Last 10 minute countdown (GOOD ACCURACY)

2. Full countdown from the start of cooking (MEDIUM ACCURACY)

3. LOOP full countdown (GOOD ACCURACY) – only available on the Fuji model.

Fuzzy logic are good at predicting cooking results but it requires some time to calculate the time needed to cook something. This is because of several factors that it needs to figure out such as ambient room temperature, starting bowl temperature of contents, what you are cooking and other various factors.

Until the fuzzy logic calculates these factors some rice cookers will either show a blank display (largely Zojirushi models) or will show a chasing lines pattern on the display until the calculation is confirmed. (Yum Asia models). The more accurate rice cookers don’t calculate the remaining time until the final 10 minutes. If the countdown starts at the beginning of cooking often the remaining time will jump around a lot as it tries to work out what cooking time is required. Usually it cannot fix on one remaining time until the final 10 minutes also. Trying to work out what a jumping countdown time means can be confusing for users. This is why we consider this type of countdown to be less reliable, especially in the early stages of cooking.

Yes, Panda has a preset timer feature. You can set this for up to 24 hours in advance, so you can have yummy rice ready for you when you get in from work or lovely hot porridge on a cold, Winters day ready for when you need warming up.

To use the Panda rice cooker timer you set the number of hours for when you want the function to complete (not when you want it to begin cooking).

For example – it is 9am and you want the white rice to be ready at 1pm. You would therefore set the preset timer for 4 hours. The rice will therefore be completed and ready to eat at 1pm.
